Honoring Lives Lost: National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day Service

As the year draws to a close and the longest night approaches, the Open Door Community Center prepares to host a poignant and heartfelt event on December 21st – National Homeless Persons' Memorial Day. This day holds a special significance as it honors the lives of those who passed away without the comfort of a home.

A Night of Reflection and Remembrance

Scheduled from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at the First Christian Church, located at 307 E. 3rd Street, Washington, this memorial service is more than just an event; it's a powerful reminder of the fragility of life and the resilience of the human spirit. It's a time for our community to come together in solidarity, to acknowledge the hardships faced by our unhoused neighbors, and to pay our respects to those who are no longer with us.

Why This Day Matters

On this longest night of the year, as many of us find warmth and comfort in our homes, it's crucial to remember those who have struggled on the streets. Homelessness is not just a winter issue; it's a year-round crisis affecting individuals and families, often invisible in our daily lives. This memorial service aims to bring this reality to the forefront, encouraging a deeper understanding and compassion within our community.

Join Us in Remembrance

We invite you to join us in this solemn occasion. Whether you knew someone who passed away while experiencing homelessness or you're a concerned community member, your presence will contribute to the collective healing and remembrance. This service is also an opportunity to learn more about how you can support efforts to combat homelessness in our community.

A Community United

The Open Door Community Center believes in the power of community. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling. This event is just one of the many ways we aim to raise awareness and support for the unhoused.
