A Night of Gratitude: Celebrating Open Door’s Volunteers at Main Cup

Last night, the air at Main Cup at Little Inn was filled with warmth and appreciation as we celebrated our invaluable volunteers at Open Door. These individuals, over 30 in number, excluding our 14 dedicated Board members, are the backbone of our organization, consistently going above and beyond in their service.

Our volunteers play diverse and crucial roles. Many contribute their time at our Day Center, which opens twice a week to provide shelter and support for residents. Others are involved in fundraising, preparing meals, providing shelter supplies, and offering enriching courses. Their selfless acts make a significant impact on the lives of those we serve.

The evening was a delightful mix of appetizers, door prizes, and gift bags, a small token of our immense gratitude. A highlight of the night was drawing the name of our first monthly Day Center Resident Assistant (RA) winner. Congratulations to Laura Labassi, a retired ER nurse from the Bronx, now a vital part of our community in Washington. Laura not only serves as a Day Center RA but also imparts valuable First Aid knowledge to our residents. Her commitment is a true inspiration to us all.

Adding to the charm of the evening was Courtney from the new local florist, Sun Moon & Bloom. She brought along beautiful bouquets, and a portion of her sales is generously being donated to Open Door. This collaboration is a testament to the supportive community spirit we cherish.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to every volunteer who has walked through our doors. Your dedication, compassion, and hard work do not go unnoticed. Together, we are making a difference, one act of kindness at a time.
