Point-In-Time Count (January 2023)
Direct quote from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development's 2023 Annual Homelessness Assessment Report to Congress:

 

"On a single night in January 2023, roughly 653,100 people - or about 20 of every 10,000 people in the United States - were experiencing homelessness."


"Between 2022 and 2023, the number of people experiencing homelessness increased by 12 percent, or roughly 70,650 more people."


"Nearly three of every 10 people experiencing homelessness (28% or roughly 186,100 people) did so as part of a family with children."

(Pitt, Beaufort, Martin, Washington, Bertie Counties)

2023 Point-In-Time Count


Each year on a single night in January the country attempts to count the individuals experiencing homelessness, sheltered and unsheltered.


Region 12 on this night in 2023:


107 people were experiencing homelessness  (compared to 91 in 2022).


86 were in emergency shelters, 21 unsheltered (living somewhere considered uninhabitable).


Of these 107 people, 11 were children, 2 children were in Beaufort County.

BEAUFORT COUNTY

"Beaufort County Schools submitted our official data yesterday for FY 2023.

 

We had 82 students who qualified as homeless under the federal McKinney-Vento law during the year."
